PENTECOST: THE CHURCH’S BIRTHDAY

TODAY IS THE CHURCH’S BIRTHDAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHURCH!!!

“If only you would tear open the heavens and come down, so that the mountains would quake at your presence—“ Isaiah 64:1 ISV

This is exactly what happened on the Day of Pentecost. God tore open the heavens and came down in power and glory with the loud sound of a violent wind that blew into that Upper Room in Jerusalem as flames of fire sat on the 120 disciples waiting in patient expectation of Jesus’ promise.

At least 500 disciples had seen Jesus ascend into heaven and most likely had heard the instructions to wait in the Upper Room for the Promise of the Father. Only 120 followed through, ready to receive the Promise.

They waited and waited, not knowing exactly how it would happen, but trusting in the word of Jesus Who had never lied to them.

“Since ancient times no one has heard, and no ear has perceived, and no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Isaiah 64:4 ISV

And what powerful “action” happened that day in Jerusalem. God acted on behalf of those 120 disciples who were waiting for Him. And the move of God was on.

And what a strategist God is. He waited until Jews from all over the known world were gathered in Jerusalem for the Feast. Thousands come running toward the Upper Room where they had heard the “sound.”

And a 3 minute prophetic message from the Apostle Peter gets 3,000 of them to respond with faith and repentance and they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now there were 3,120. Incredible church growth.

The church of the Lord Jesus Christ was birthed in the power of the Holy Spirit. And God expects the church to advance also from generation to generation in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today we celebrate Pentecost. But more than that, we also celebrate the church’s birthday.

Happy Birthday Church!!!
